Parts refurbishment

As part of the complete restoration of a Volkswagen Kübelwagen, its original air-cooled flat-four engine was also fully rebuilt. Careful disassembly and inspection revealed extensive wear along with several previously sustained internal defects. Following precision machining, component restoration and meticulous reassembly, the original engine was upgraded to a 1600 cc specification. The objective was to preserve the character of the historic Volkswagen design while creating a more reliable and enjoyable engine for regular use.

The Mercedes-Benz W123 is equipped with a hydraulic self-leveling suspension (SLS) system, where the valve plays a critical role in maintaining correct rear ride height. Over time, these valves often become contaminated, worn, or stuck, leading to improper suspension behavior. The unit shown here arrived in heavily contaminated condition, with restricted internal movement and failing seals, causing incorrect pressure regulation in the system. During the refurbishment process, the valve was completely disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, and inspected. All seals were replaced, and internal components were carefully restored to ensure smooth and precise operation. The result is a fully functional SLS valve capable of properly regulating hydraulic pressure and restoring factory-like suspension performance.

OVERDRIVE is an auxiliary transmission used mainly in manual transmission models of the 1970s and 1980s.
Its essence is that it reduces the speed of the engine at high speeds, thus ensuring a quieter, more economical and less wear and tear operation. In practice, it's like the transmission gets half an extra gear - e.g. between 4th and 5th – which resulted in significant fuel savings on the highway.

The Volvo M41 transmission is an improved version of the legendary M40 four-speed manual transmission, equipped with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. This transmission was used in various rear-wheel drive Volvo models from the mid-1960s to the late 1970s, such as the Amazon (122S), the P1800, and the early 140 series. The M41 is often considered one of the best manual transmissions of its time, mainly due to its reliability and smooth shifting.

Refurbishing the Volvo 142 brake calipers is an important maintenance task that ensures the safe operation of the brake system. During the renovation, I disassembled the saddle, cleaned it of corrosion, and then replaced the pistons and seals again.  In this case, it is also necessary to check the brake pipes and breather screws!

This World War II Kübelwagen gas stove is a special and rare piece that I have completely restored. During the work, I disassembled all parts, cleaned them, and then restored them according to the original operating principles. The goal was for the stove to function not only aesthetically, but also technically in its original condition, preserving its historical value and authenticity.

I worked on the restoration of several original parts on this classic Mercedes-Benz W113 model. The goal was for the parts to retain their factory appearance and quality while making them fully usable again. During the work, special attention was paid to detail and to preserve the originality of the materials, so that every element is worthy of the fame of the legendary "Pagoda".

The Volvo B18 engine is one of the most robust and long-lasting classic engines, widely used in Volvo models of the 1960s and 1970s. Many versions were equipped with Zenith Stromberg 175CD carburetors, known for their smooth operation and reliability when properly maintained. Over time, however, these carburetors often suffer from wear, diaphragm failure, fuel contamination and incorrect adjustments, leading to poor engine performance, unstable idle and increased fuel consumption. During the restoration process, the carburetor is completely disassembled, cleaned and inspected. All critical components such as diaphragms, seals, needles and jets are replaced or refurbished. Special attention is given to proper calibration, ensuring correct air-fuel mixture and smooth engine operation across all conditions. At OTC Garage Hungary, each carburetor is rebuilt with precision and tested to ensure reliable performance, original drivability and long-term durability.

Land Rover Series – Önindító felújítás
A Land Rover Series modellek önindítója egyszerű, mégis robusztus szerkezet, amely évtizedek használata után gyakran igényel teljes karbantartást. A felújítás során az önindítót teljesen szétszereltem, megtisztítottam az összes alkatrészt, majd ellenőriztem a behúzó mágnes és a kefék állapotát. A kopott alkatrészek – mint a szénkefék és a csapágyak – cserére kerültek, a villamos érintkezők pedig újra lettek csiszolva és beállítva. Az összeszerelést precíz tisztítás, kenés és elektromos tesztelés követte, így az önindító ismét megbízhatóan, a gyári működéshez közeli állapotban képes szolgálni a klasszikus Land Rovert. Ez a felújítás hosszú távon biztosítja a könnyű indítást és a jármű üzembiztonságát.

The 1939 Lagonda V12 is a rare and special British luxury car, every part of which has historical value. The original firewall had corroded significantly over the decades and was damaged at several points, so it required a complete re-production. During the work process, I completely disassembled the original element, then created a template for the new panels based on exact dimensions. I recreated the missing and unsalvageable parts from age-appropriate material with manual sheet metal work, making sure to stay true to the 1939 factory design both in terms of form and structure. The surface treatment and the design of the joints were also adapted to the original technologies, so the end result not only aesthetically, but also technically fully meets the specifications of the time. The restored firewall can now once again be a worthy part of the Lagonda V12 restoration project, helping to bring this special vehicle back to its original glory.

The braking system of the Lagonda V12 was a sophisticated, precisely designed structure even in its time, however, over the decades, the condition of the master brake cylinder deteriorated significantly. Due to the corrosion of the inner surface, the aging of the seals and the operational uncertainty, a complete renovation became necessary. The work process began with complete disassembly, then continued with a careful cleaning and inspection of the inside of the cylinder. I replaced the defective, worn parts with remanufactured parts, and the inner surface of the cylinder was restored by fine polishing in order to ensure proper operation. I replaced all the seals and spring elements with modern parts that match the original design. The refurbished master cylinder now works reliably and smoothly again, ensuring the original efficiency and safety of the Lagonda V12 braking system. This meticulous work is an important step towards the complete restoration of the car, so that the historic vehicle can once again function in its former glory.
