Volkswagen Golf Mk1 WUR Rebuild

2026. 08. 12.

Complete rebuild of a Volkswagen Golf Mk1 Bosch K-Jetronic warm-up regulator. The WUR was disassembled and cleaned, its worn and sealing components were replaced, and the heating element was tested before careful reassembly. Final control-pressure adjustment is carried out in the vehicle’s own K-Jetronic system.

Volkswagen Golf Mk1 WUR Rebuild
A Bosch K-Jetronic warm-up regulator, commonly known as the WUR, from a Volkswagen Golf Mk1 arrived at our workshop for a complete rebuild.

The WUR plays a key role in cold starting, mixture control during engine warm-up and overall running behaviour. Internal wear, ageing diaphragms or contamination can result in incorrect control pressure, difficult cold starts, uneven running and improper fuel mixture.

The rebuilding process
The warm-up regulator was completely disassembled, and every component was carefully inspected. The housing and all reusable parts were thoroughly cleaned, while worn components and sealing elements were replaced with new parts.

The work included:

-complete disassembly and condition assessment;
-thorough cleaning of the housing and internal components;
-replacement of diaphragms, seals and worn parts;
-refurbishment of the connections and mounting hardware;
-electrical testing of the heating element;
-precise reassembly of the unit.
The measured resistance of the heating element was 24.08 Ω, confirming its electrical condition.

Final adjustment must be performed on the vehicle
After the rebuild, the final cold and warm control-pressure settings must be adjusted within the vehicle’s own K-Jetronic fuel-injection system. The correct values depend not only on the warm-up regulator itself but also on the system pressure and the overall condition of the fuel system.

For an accurate final adjustment, the rebuilt WUR must therefore be installed in the vehicle and tested under actual operating conditions.

The rebuild was completed with new sealing elements and refurbished components, followed by careful reassembly. The next step is to test and precisely adjust the cold and warm control pressures in the Volkswagen Golf Mk1’s own K-Jetronic system.

At OTC Garage Hungary, we specialise in the diagnosis, repair and component rebuilding of Bosch K-Jetronic, KE-Jetronic and D-Jetronic systems for classic and youngtimer vehicles.
